dnsIreland.org – Domain registration scam

We wish to advise all our clients to be on the lookout for scam emails from “DNS Ireland” (specifically dnsireland.org). The company claims to be “founded in 2009 in the heart of Dublin”, however their website domain was only registered in August 2018 and their directors are based in the Netherlands.

The emails claim that someone has attempted to register a domain name similar to yours and they ask you to register it to protect your brand name. This type of domain name scam usually originates from China and it’s unusual to see a website pretending to operate from Ireland.
The scammers appear to be using the domain name dnsIreland.org because similar domain names are already registered to an long-established hosting provider which is legitimately established in Ireland.

We strongly advise all clients to disregard any emails from “DNS Ireland” or “EU Internet Group Ltd”. Please delete the message, do NOT reply to it, and definitely do NOT make any payment to these scammers.

The latest scam email includes text like: “We have received a request for the registration of the website abcxyz.com. This can have far-reaching consequences for you in the future.”, and urges you to make a payment to stop someone else registering the domain name. This is a scam!
Domain names are sold on a first-come, first-served basis and a reputable domain provider would not contact you in this way.

Our advice is:

– Never reply to any spam/scam emails
– Do NOT pay any money!
– Don’t click on links or open attachments on unexpected emails
– Inform your work colleagues and family to lookout for similar scams

Please contact our support team if you are not sure about the legitimacy of any email you receive
